Valve Thermostatic Mixing

Thermostatic mixing valves are used in domestic hot and cold water systems and in hydronic heating systems. For plumbing applications, they fulfill the same purpose as a pressure balancing valve, to provide anti-scald protection for bath and shower use. Unlike pressure balancing valves which can create a drop in flow rate, thermostatic mixing valves have the ability to maintain the delivered flow rate by constantly modulating the ratio of hot and cold water inlet flow to produce the desired outlet water temperature at the same flow rate.

Hydronic heating systems often use thermostatic mixing valves to create a desired outlet temperature by regulating the flow of two different inlet water temperatures. They can often be found on terminal units such as radiators to provide room by room temperature control without separate zone control.
